Wine tasting in the grass
The Yarra Valley produces world-class wines and more than 70 vineyards are open to the public. To visit, you can either arrange your own transportation or participate in a wine tour. You may also combine a wine tour with a relaxed lunch or exclusive dinner; the valley boasts many top restaurants. For a more casual meal, purchase some goodies at a farmers’ market and find a pretty spot.
A bird’s-eye view
The Yarra Valley offers a lot more than just vineyards: the rugged beauty of its flora and fauna are worth a visit too. Enjoy a ride through the Yarra Ranges National Park, the Toolangi State Forest or Kinglake National Park and enjoy the beautiful views. For an aerial view of the valley, conclude your day of sightseeing with a spectacular flight in a hot-air balloon.
The valley’s most bizarre inhabitant
The Yarra Valley is home to several typical Australian animals, such as koalas, kangaroos, dingoes and wombats. The most intriguing creature is the platypus. Visit the Healesville Sanctuary to learn more about this unique animal. During this ‘encounter’, you actually go into the water to play with the platypus. You can also feed the animal.
